I believe in God and I believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God and born of the Virgin Mary. I am a Catholic on record but I don’t like to segregate myself into a group when it comes to my faith. I am simply someone who was broken and was fixed by an unimaginable force of grace. To say that I'm the perfect example of my faith would be a lie; I am far from perfection. Yet, discovering God's love has made me the happiest I ever will ever be.
After a lot of prayers and tears, I have been blessed with the opportunity to study medicine; my dream for a number of years. The ability to piece together fragmented information an individual portrays outwardly in order to identify what is wrong with the complex living organism that is the human body is something that has captured my mind for a very long time. The utter relief that I experienced when I opened UCAS on results day at 7:00 am to see "You have an unconditional offer to study Medicine and Surgery (A100) at Lancaster University) is indescribable.
I have been dancing from a very young age but it was only a few years ago that I began to really appreciate how incredible it makes me feel. I have been doing Bollywood dance ever since I can remember and took up Hip-Hop in year 7. Currently, I have set up my own dance society for medics at my university where I teach both styles of dance. Performing to an audience and inspiring others to dance is what I aim for during each performance.
Being a humanitarian is something that I have strived for since the age of 10/11 when I watched my first documentary on how AIDS affects children in rural Africa. As a human being and a follower of Christ, I believe that I should live my life serving others; then and only then can I be truly happy with my life. So far, I have volunteered in a number of countries and intend to do more voluntary work over the course of my life in developing countries. My ultimate aim is to work with MSF (Doctors without borders). The work they do in war-torn and/or poverty-stricken countries is absolutely incredible and I would love to be a part of it.
Born in Oman, I lived the nine years of my life as a carefree child. I moved to England at the age of 9/10 and have had a rollercoaster of a life up until now. My parents are originally from India (Kerala) and even though I don't have a lot of ties with that beautiful country, I am very much interested in my history and culture. I can also read, write and speak Malayalam fluently; along with a little bit of Hindi, Spanish and Tamil. This blog is about the journey I take through medical school and beyond. Be prepared to join my experiences of happiness, sadness, anger and every other human emotion that I'm willing to share with you.
